Eyelash extensions have increased in popularity thanks to their use by some of today’s top female celebrities. Semi-permanent lashes frame your eyes, and make them stand out. They will not ruin your natural lashes. However, certain matters need to be considered if you decide to try individual eyelash extensions.
Size and Types of Eyelash Extensions
Eyelash extensions come in sizes ranging from 6 mm to 17 mm. There are also three different types of eyelash extensions to choose from: synthetic, silk, and mink. Mink eyelashes are the more expensive, but they may be the most popular. They have a more feather-like look to them. They are also lighter and therefore put less pressure on your natural lashes.
The Experience
Adding lash extensions to your natural lashes should be a pain-free experience. It is always best to have lash extensions done by a professional who knows what they are doing. Lash extensions are attached one at a time with glue to your natural lash. If done any other way, eyelashes will only look clumped.
To apply a complete set of lashes will take approximately two hours. It may be more economical to apply only a half set as a filler to your natural lashes. It is also suggested to keep lash extensions to a particular length or thickness to prevent damage to your own natural lashes.
A specially formulated, semi-permanent glue is used to attach the lash. As your eyes are closed throughout the application process, the adhesive will not irritate your eyes or damage your natural lashes. You also cannot go blind from the process. Some people may experience an allergic reaction to the type of glue used. To prevent this, it is best to use glue that does not contain formaldehyde. So ask your beauty salon which glue they use before deciding to go ahead.
Maintenance
After the application process is complete, it is best to avoid water for the first twelve to twenty-four hours. Water will weaken the adhesive. If the beautician used glue for sensitive eyes in the application process, it is recommended not to use oil-based or makeup remover around the eyes as this may also weaken the adhesive. It is also best to avoid using waterproof mascara as it will be hard to remove and can pull off extensions prematurely. If using mascara at all, mascara should be used lightly and only on the tips of the eyelashes as extensions should already provide that full look desired. Using mascara on the base of the lashes will only clump.
Semi-permanent lashes should last the total growth of your natural lashes, which is about six to eight weeks. They are attached to your natural lash, they will fall out as your natural lashes fall out. They will fall out faster if picked at or pulled at, so try not to touch them. It is recommended not to rub eyes to avoid lash extensions from falling out. You can maintain eyelash extensions year-round, with touch-ups done every three to four weeks.
